Post-Doctoral Researcher

Applications are hereby invited for a post-doc position in the Centre for Space Research at North-West University, Potchefstroom campus. The post-doc is supported and partially funded by the National Institute for Theoretical and Computational Sciences (NiTheCS-North-node). Candidates needs proof of having recently obtained their PhD in Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics or Mathematical Statistics, and need to provide evidence that they are still active in research. Applicants must be under the age of 45. 

The research focus for the post-doc position will be Multivariate Permutation Entropy, which has broad applicability in industrial processes, physics, environmental sciences, and finance. Specifically, this research will focus on the development of novel ideas and methods in Multivariate Permutation Entropy for online monitoring of time series data, change-point detection and diagnosis. The Successful Applicant will be required to relocate to Potchefstroom.

Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer

We invite applications to fill three permanent positions at Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor levels on standard academic conditions of service or academic teaching conditions of service (Senior lecturer position only).

The Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Cape Town is responsible for lecturing and research in the disciplines variously known as Statistics, Operations Research, Quantitative Methods, Data Science, Machine Learning, Decision Science and Analytics, and includes the application of the Statistical Sciences in all areas of human endeavour. The department offers qualifications in these disciplines at undergraduate and postgraduate level to students from Science and Commerce and service courses to other faculties. The department has a strong record of broad interdisciplinary work in its teaching and research.

For these positions, we are interested in either (1) candidates who can teach in the statistical sciences, conduct research and supervise postgraduate students, or (2) candidates interested and experienced in blended learning approaches to teaching of statistics. We prefer candidates from the following areas: Biostatistics, Data Science, Operations Research, Machine Learning or Multivariate Statistics.
